Passenger services have resumed at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial air traffic control outage halted all operations.

All aircraft movements were stopped because of an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Operations Restart with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, significant disruption are likely to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with many others experiencing delays.

Officials had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to contact their airlines for the current status on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

Officials linked the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Passengers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the terminal as residual delays are worked through.
